movemindfully App

The movemindfully App provides guided practices for a a safe and peaceful learning environment. You can choose simple, age-appropriate strategies for managing anxiety, depression, and improving focus/attention. This app is for students, teachers, therapists, parents, and anyone seeking to build reset breaks into their day.

With increased mental health concerns for staff, students, and families, this app is a bridge to common language and practices during the school day (in classrooms and therapy) and at home to reduce stress, increase focus, and improve emotional well-being. Adults appreciate having this tool for their own stress management and community connection. Sharing the app with families supports public mental health. It is also an effective tool for social-emotional learning.
Guided practices using the movemindfully App are designed to support physical, emotional, and mental well-being. You choose moves or routines based on how you (or your kids) are feeling. The app includes over 100 moves and 32 Breathe Move Rest sequences, you can use daily, always finding something new. Based on 30 years of experience in educational, therapeutic, and home environments, movemindfully brings science into practice with accessible, trauma-responsive, mind-body strategies. The moves and sequences are proven to reduce stress, increase focus, lessen anxiety, support embodied social-emotional learning (SEL), self-regulation, and co-regulation so children and youth can feel safe and ready to learn.
Teachers/therapists will be able to easily integrate Breathe Move Rest practices throughout the day on iPads, Chromebooks, SMARTboards, and/or phones. Paras can use the app 1:1 or in small groups with students to support youth who are navigating big emotions, anxiety, stress, and/or low energy. Students can use these practices after recess, in the safe/calming space, and/or during morning meetings to support focus (listening, learning, and making good choices).

Product interaction (moves/routines) selected by the user, email address, course location, session duration, number of sessions, device model, app opens, first launches, and app updates. For more information read our privacy policy.

For districts wanting access to the data: If users skip the login step, then everything but email is collected. Email only allows you to identify a specific user with the data transmitted, as opposed to being anonymous. The anonymous data will still be transmitted.

While the app includes all our Youth, Early Childhood, and Therapeutic Card Decks, there is value to having print materials, as well. The advantage of the app is its accessibility — that it can be used anywhere, anytime. Yet, depending on where and how you will be using these practices, print versions encourage and reinforce their use as needed. For example, many sites are displaying the Permission to Pause posters throughout the building as visual reminders to students (and staff) that these practices can be used in the moment when they need to reset. Many educators post the cards they are working with in pocket charts or in Take A Break spaces. We include rings with our card decks for easy access throughout the day.
Whether you are working with the app or the print materials, we encourage you to ask students to choose Breathe Move Rest practices either for themselves or for the group. Since students get to rate how they feel after completing an app routine (with a thumbs up, thumbs sideways, or thumbs down) they will be more aware of the Breathe Move Rest practices they like. Over time, students can lead practices based on different techniques that they found helpful. Remember, there is no right or wrong choice for a practice in any given situation and/or time of day. Continual practice, self-reflection, and opportunities to lead self and others supports SEL and assists with building a toolkit of self-regulation strategies.
When we introduce the app to a new group of students, we show it to them and let them choose what they want to explore. Very little instruction is necessary. If you have students that are using the app, they will be the best candidate for introducing it to their families and friends. If you are interested in sharing the app with a larger group of parents/caregivers, check out our online Introduction to the movemindfully App offering!

Where to Begin?

Get started right away by visiting our store. Our movemindfully App offers a quick and easy introduction to trauma-responsive practices for youth from toddlers to young adults. Our Early Childhood, Youth, and Adult Poster Sets provide simple sequences you can post and begin to use right away. Our Early Childhood, Youth, Therapeutic, and Elder Card Decks provide our full curriculum for each of these populations. We strongly encourage you to register for our movemindfully Foundation training or to host a workshop at your site in order to learn the intentionality behind these practices and how they can support physical, emotional, and mental health.

We recommend starting with an exploratory session so we can learn about your organization including school-wide initiatives/organization goals, staff capacity, social-emotional learning (SEL) programming, and trauma-informed training. An introductory workshop for all staff provides an understanding of the science behind movemindfully Breathe Move Rest practices. We pair this common language/understanding with simple, practical, and easily accessible strategies that can be integrated right away into educational and therapeutic environments. In this workshop adults learn how using mind-body strategies alongside youth, offers opportunities to co-regulate, de-stress, and build community with embodied SEL.

Then, movemindfully demos in classrooms (or groups) allow staff to see what this looks like in their unique environment. Follow up consultation sessions can be scheduled for staff who want more support as they continue to integrate these strategies throughout the day. Consultations allow staff to discuss specific student/youth needs and develop plans for sustainability. Our instructors can also come in for five week Residencies, where we work side-by-side with staff as they implement Breathe Move Rest practices with youth. To foster home-school connection we offer Family Nights where movemindfully practices are shared and experienced together.

These practices can be done in as little as 1-5 minutes. And now with our movemindfully App, they can literally be implemented anytime and anywhere. We know that consistency and repetition creates habitual patterns for self-regulation.

We intentionally designed movemindfully tools and practices for easy access and integration into your already busy day while supporting the programming and practices (academic, social/emotional, behavior, and trauma informed) your organization already has in place. This is not another curriculum that is just one more thing to add to your full schedule. It is intended to support other SEL curricula that your site might be using (Zones of Regulation, Responsive Classroom, Conscious Discipline, PBIS, Leader in Me, Second Step, etc.) All movemindfully practices are designed to be used in short bursts throughout the day – to start/end morning meetings, before math/reading/science, and as a transition. We intentionally designed Breathe Move Rest practices to be used as a part of a short sequence for both you and your students to de-stress, focus, and reset as needed..

If you want your whole building to experience movemindfully in their classrooms, we suggest scheduling demo days in which all staff can receive a session. Then, staff who are ready to integrate these practices further in their classrooms can schedule our five-week Residencies.

We strongly recommend a minimal purchase of poster sets to be displayed around the building as this supports a common language around using mind-body strategies to promote embodied SEL. Poster sets, Card Decks, and the movemindfully App provide the simple visuals and accessible language that staff can be using with youth throughout the day. We know when staff have these tools fidelity and sustainability dramatically increase.

Our movemindfully App is available in English, Spanish, and French. Our Youth Card Decks, Early Childhood Card Deck, Permission to Pause Posters, and Sleep Routine Post Cards are all available in Spanish. In addition, our Early Childhood Card Deck and Permission to Pause Poster sets are available in French. We also have Sleep Routines Postcards available in Somali. We can provide workshops in Spanish, as well.

Programs

Our size cap for movemindfully programs varies based on the offering and platform used. Please contact us for more information.

It is highly recommended that before a school/therapeutic setting schedules a Residency, Consultation, and/or Demos, their staff experience a one-hour movemindfully workshop.
Our movemindfully programs provided via zoom do not include recording rights. If you want a recording of a movemindfully workshop and/or session, please contact us regarding pricing. We also offer program videos and online courses for purchase.
Our workshops qualify as “clock hours” for many educational and therapy licensures. Please check with your certification organization/board regarding credit and we will provide a detailed syllabus for their review.

Currently, we do not have a certification program, however our movemindfully Apprenticeship Program is the next level of expertise after completing our Foundations Training. The Apprenticeship program requires 10 hours of shadowing/observing a movemindfully Instructor (live or virtually), 20 hours of teaching movemindfully in educational and/or therapeutic environments and completion of our movemindfully Residency Training. You then are listed as a movemindfully Instructor on our website and available for placement in participating schools. Please contact us after you complete the Foundations Training for more information on the movemindfully Apprenticeship track.
