Hope Through Transition

In our last blog post, Kathy wrote about New Year Intentions. Our MoveMindfully team has been discussing cultivating a deeper relationship with our Inner Resources (the parts of ourselves that are always available and ready to support our well-being). Since then, I’ve been sharing the Inner Resources card HOPE with family, friends, colleagues, and clients to hold positive intentions with them for 2022.

A Letter from a Client

Dear Jackie,

I read this email and appreciate the focus on hope. I am challenging myself to dream big as well as challenging myself to move from general to specifics about what I hope for. I run into some concern that since I really don’t know what it would be like in a different career, am I not being realistic? I am interested in your thoughts.

My Response

The concern you expressed is quite common, especially as we navigate new territory and may feel the need to balance idealism with realism. This is where it’s helpful to practice being with our Inner Resources, and in your situation, three that come to mind right away (in addition to HOPE) are IMAGINATION, DREAM, and RESOURCEFUL (in that order). More on that tomorrow!

Questions & (Possible) Answers on Inner Resource HOPE

Q: How do I respond with Inner Resource HOPE when what I want seems impossible?

A: It may require that you are open to possibilities that are different from what you imagined and/or that you get in touch with what you really want, which may shift and change over time with deeper self-discovery.

Q: Is it ever important to give up hope?

A: It may be, and another way to see that is to reframe the request. For example, if your pet is ill and you hope for recovery that is eventually not likely, the hope can shift from recovery to a loving transition. The question can be “What do I really want now?”

Q: What can I do if/when I don’t seem to get what I ask for?

A: My three “go to” options include:

  • Be patient and trust the right timing.
  • Ask if this is what I really want.
  • Act as if what I got is what I asked for.
