Now that 2022 is here, it may be time to make (or add to) your new year intentions. Versions of “doing and/or being better” are often at the top of many people’s lists, backed by the January high of motivation and commitment. Yet, as we probably know, the challenge is to make positive changes that will be sustainable.
What gets in the way?
Stress, fatigue, overwhelm, self-doubt, and other big emotions on top of distractions and limiting beliefs are often factors that prevent sustainable change. And, as we’ve experienced this past year, the complexity of navigating life during a global pandemic, weather disasters, and other unexpected challenges makes it even harder to experience a sense of well-being on a regular basis.
What can we do about it?
Sometimes it is helpful to set an intention and choose a focus word for the year. My word for this year is CONNECTION, which I hope will allow me to not only strengthen relationships with others, but cultivate a deeper relationship with my Inner Resources, which are the parts of myself that are always available and ready to support my well-being.
When I’m connected with my Inner Resources and grounded in their key messages, I feel a sense of ease, clarity, and confidence, regardless of the situation.
Here’s what my Inner Resources want me to know:
- We are always here with you
- We will never judge you
- You are more than enough
- You matter
- Healing happens in our presence
When I’m connected with my Inner Resources and held by their blessings and wishes I feel peace in my body, mind, and heart.
If real change happens when we start with “self,” then cultivating our Inner Resources allows us to connect more fully and authentically with ourselves and others. And if that’s true, connection with our Inner Resources can be one of the most powerful intentions to begin this new year.
What are the Inner Resources?
There are many Inner Resources including those represented in the new MoveMindfully® Inner Resources Card Deck: Acceptance, Balance, Courage, Dream, Empathy, Flexible, Gratitude, Hope, Imagination, Joy, Kindness, Love, Mindfulness, NO!, Optimism, Persistence, Quiet, Resourceful, Self, Trust, Understanding, View, Wonder, eXperience, Yes!, and Zest .
As you read the list above, which ones catch your attention? Why? Which ones seem challenging? Why? Which ones are you curious to know more about? Why?
We’re interested in your answers to these questions as we continue to develop MoveMindfully Tools for YOU. Send your answers to info@move-mindfully.com.
I am teaching yin and vinyasa yoga with my company staff. Each month in 2022, I’m reflecting on each yamas and niyama to practice on and off the yoga mat. Acceptance, courage, love and kindness stand out to me from the inner resource cards. Thanks you for also teaching and practicing these along with the community you connect with.
I love these cards and will be using them in my coaching sessions!
