We were recently honored to attend a 30-minute follow-up Lunch & Learn with Hennepin County Public Health staff—one month after they hosted an I Am Safe workshop. Participants were invited to reconnect and share how they’d been integrating mind-body practices into their personal and professional lives.
The guiding questions were simple:
- Did you try any practices with others? How did that go?
- What did you try this past month? What was happening in the moment when you tried mind-body practices?
The stories were incredibly inspiring! Here are just a few powerful ways I Am Safe is already making an impact:
- A staff member shared how he’s now including simple, science-based key messages about breathing when teaching teens how to navigate anxiety and stress—making the practices more relatable and effective.
- Another attendee described supporting a loved one through a child’s mental health crisis using co-regulation and settling techniques learned in the training—transforming helplessness into grounded presence.
- A grandmother shared how she began using tapping at bedtime with her one-year-old granddaughter to help her learn to self-soothe and fall asleep—while also feeling calmer and more connected to herself.
These are the kinds of applications we dreamed would occur when we created I Am Safe—simple, practical strategies being integrated into everyday lives, supporting children, teens, and families.
Now it’s your turn.
How can simple mind-body portable coping skills add to the great work you’re already doing to support mental health and well-being?
How can these same tools support you when added to your personal and professional toolkit?
To learn more, join us for our public, full-day I Am Safe training on June 25th and experience the momentum of a growing community centered on trauma-responsive practices and community healing. Let’s move into summer together—grounded, connected, and ready to make a difference!
We can’t wait to see what happens next!
